Surrender a
Horse

Please note priority is given to horses in urgent need

Accepting horses

We have been accepting surrendered horses for a very long time but currently due to funding and space limitations we have had to become more specific on the horses we can accept.

We will accept horses that are in immediate danger who have been abused, neglected or require vet care to the point where their life is under threat. These are given priority over healthy horses requiring rehoming.

We can not provide a re-homing service for healthy horses. Unless the horse is surrendered to SAHA we can not advertise it or refer you to anyone else due to not being able to guarantee where the horse will end up without a SAHA contract. Our SAHA contracts ensure that the horses we adopt remain on our register and cannot be re-sold but must be surrendered back to Save A Horse Australia if necessary.

We understand how difficult it is to re-home healthy horses, but due to past issues we are unable to help, if the horse isn’t part of SAHA it cannot be re-homed under our life time adoption contract. We have over 1000 horses that have been adopted through SAHA and through necessity we have had to put in place this surrender policy so that our time and resources are best spent on our equine friends that need it the most.

When surrendering a horse to SAHA you will be required to fill in and sign a full Surrender document. Note that this means you will no longer be able to reclaim your horse at a later time or visit your horse. You will also not be considered for adoption of that horse. If you don’t agree with these conditions, please don’t contact us regarding surrender.

**PLEASE NOTE: Do not contact us regarding surrendering a horse that you do NOT own unless the person who owns the horse has agreed to surrender the horse. This is also not the place to inform us of neglect cases. If the horse is owned privately, please contact the RSPCA.**

Thank you for your understanding and we are here to help if we can. Please fill in the below form with as much detail as possible and return it to office@saveahorse.org.au. The more information you give us, the faster we can help.
