Regal was abandoned on a 600-acre property, thanks to a good Samaritan who contacted SAHA to ask if we could please help him. A lightly raced thoroughbred who had been off the track for over 18 years, whereabouts unknown. He arrived in emaciated condition, with an eye riddled with cancer that required surgery to remove, feet that have not been trimmed, teeth in need of a dental, and severe skin irritation on his legs. This poor boy has a lot going on but he was bright and had spirit, showing he had a willingness to live. He was examined by vets, x-rays of his feet – given the all clear with remedial farrier work required. Regal then began his rehab journey at SAHA.
Update April 2026 Regal had improved in condition, so that he was able to have surgery to remove his eye. Vets were happy with the margins, so he was given the all clear to continue with rehab.
August 2026 Regal is now happy and healthy; he has recovered well from having his offside eye removed and now spends his days in the paddock with Eddie another one-eyed horse, these 2 have become fast friends on their rehab journeys and we would love to be able to adopt this beautiful pair together into a caring and knowledgeable home.
Please note Regal is missing his offside eye.
