Kateena (Saucy Splits)

Mare Thoroughbred

Kateena was rescued from the Laidley sales with a nasty looking head injury. She looked in a lot of pain and stood in the corner of the yards with her eyes shut. Due to the generosity of SAHA supporters, we were able to purchase Kateena and have her transported directly to Exclusively Equine for immediate vet treatment and pain relief.

Thank you especially to Tanya Nielson who contributed a very generous donation to save this mare and then did us the honour of naming her Kateena which is Aboriginal for daughter. Kateena is a beautiful mare – so loving and affectionate.

Unfortunately, she did not pass her ridden assessment. She is nervous and slightly unsound under saddle. She is short stepped in her hind and stubbles in her hind. She is also quite cold backed and humps if you ride her before lunging to warm up. We tried chiro and regular equissage without any improvement so we have decided she should remain as a companion horse only.

Kateena will live out her days pampered here at the sanctuary under our Golden Oldies program.
