Rhett

Rhett was purchased from the Laidley Sales in May 2021.

Rhett was an unhandled stallion who was sent to the sale yards. He was covered from head to toe in cuts, scars and old wounds. He had a massive eye injury in where they eye ball had con-caved into his skull.

SAHA purchased him and brought him back to the sanctuary; he was taught the basics in handling and once he had some handling under his belt he was then gelded.

The vets looked into his eye and at some stage he had suffered a massive eye injury, most likely something had penetrated his eye and caused his eye to deflate in the socket. This would have been extremely painful when it had happened, the vets informed us he would be in no current pain as it was an old wound. We made the decision to have the socket cleaned out and stitched up.

Rhett underwent handling but he failed to make progress, making him unsuitable for adoption so he went onto long term agistment enjoying life as a horse in a small herd.

December 2024 – after spending several years on agistment the decision was made to put him to sleep.
