Todd

Gelding

Todd was rescued from the doggers in emaciated condition. Todd has a horribly arthritic pastern joint that is causing him to be unsound in the paddock. We will start him on some supplements and herbs and see how he goes. Due to the cost of maintaining Todd pain free, he will remain in our Golden Oldies retirement program. Unfortunately the arthritis was making it difficult for him to live pain free without bute. We arranged some xrays which showed the DJD and he was on some supplements which made things a little better at walking around the paddock but he couldn’t run around pain free and I wasn’t going to keep him alive just to be on pain medication for the rest of his life. He was assessed by two different vets in the hope for a better outcome and both said to just give him bute – there was no fixing the issue. I decided that giving him injections just to try and make him paddock sound, wasn’t an option I wanted to put him through. Joint injections are painful and with advanced stages of arthritis, in most cases they don’t provide relief for very long, if at all. Arthritis is a horrible condition with no cure and sadly we have to do what is right for our old horses without prolonging their pain. Run free old man..
