Leelah

Mare Miniature Pony

Leelah was bought by the doggers from the Grafton sales with a foal at foot. She was rescued from the doggers by a kind lady and the foal was subsequently weaned. Unfortunately, Leelah had very bad feet, a worm burden and terrible teeth and so she could not eat properly and was losing weight. She was also mostly unhandled which made treating her difficult and getting near her feet and mouth was not happening. She was surrendered to SAHA in the hope that our team of vets could get some maintenance done so that she could start putting on weight. After our initial vet checks, a blood test revealed she was also in foal again, presumably to the same stallion. It was later thought that she lost the foal very early in the pregnancy. Leelah has been mishandled at some point in her life. She is untrusting and does take a little while to learn to trust. Leelah isn’t a nasty pony and doesn’t bite or kick but she is super nervous and if she thinks you’re going to hurt her she will jump over you to get away. Leelah made firm friends with Charlotte, another little mini who came to the Gold Coast Sanctuary. Leelah was never so friendly with the other horses but she loves Charlotte! We were delighted when they were adopted and will remain together forever!
