Sass was rescued from the knackery as an unhandled ex broodmare. We didn’t realise how old she was until she was with our trainer as she was pretty unhandled and we didn’t want to stress her out to much – Instead sending her for professional training first. However on dental examination it was discovered that she was in fact 19 years old. She was going well, so we continued to have her broken into saddle. After 4 weeks, Sass started to struggle in the hind end which was put down to nerve damage from having so many foals. We have decided its time for Sass to retire and enjoy a life of pampering. Sass joined our Golden Oldies Sponsorship program and will also be posted up for adoption as a special needs companion horse in the hope that some amazing people with lots of time and love will adopt her and show this old baby making machine that the world isn’t such a bad place after all.
