Shiloh

Mare Thoroughbred

Shiloh was used as a brood mare before she came to us and after being assessed under saddle she was adopted out to a child rider. She is a beautiful quiet mare but not long after she was adopted she started tossing her head quite badly when being ridden. It was put down to pain in her month from bad teeth. She had had a dental on arrival and head xrays showed her teeth were not in the best shape due to poor management throughout her whole life but it shouldn’t have been causing her pain. The options were to remove the teeth but the vet said there wasn’t really any guarantee it would help her. But this week we have discovered that although she doesn’t limp or show signs of lameness, she is actually quite hoof sore. This pain seems to be the reason for her head shaking. So corrective shoes should do the trick but we have decided to retire this old ex broodmare into our Golden Oldies Program. She hasn’t had an easy life with horrible teeth and feet so we feel she should be retired.
