Cadence

Mare Thoroughbred

Cadence was unfortunately left unattended after her owner passed away. We arranged to have her transported from Grafton. Her teeth were in shocking condition and an old hoof injury was causing lameness due to not having her feet attended to. Following X-rays, Cadence had corrective shoeing and she remained sound. Cadence wasn’t well for a few months and she stopped eating, seemed to have had a virus and started to lose weight. I had some bloods run on her and it showed some weird abnormalities. The vet said she could either had been at the tail end of ross river fever or she may have had cancer, her inflammation levels were through the roof. She went on some antibiotics and time was to tell if she would improve. She had good days and bad ones, gained a little weight, then went off her food and lost weight again. It was like a roller-coaster but no real improvement. She started getting sick in May but over the past 4 weeks things have gotten worse again. She is losing weight and slowly starving herself to death. Her last lot of bloods showed no improvement with very high White Blood Count and very high Monocytes – both indicators of cancer. She also has many grey horse melanoma’s on her face, throat and under her tail. There isn’t much else we can do and I have made the heart breaking decision to do what is right for her and have her laid to rest. She has been with us for over a year now and had has an amazing year filled with love.
