Star was rescued in an emaciated condition from a thoroughbred breeding stud with a colt foal at foot. Her foal was old enough to be weaned and was purchased from the stud by one of our volunteers. The stud had come upon some serious financial strife and was attempting to sell all of the horses in a hurry. Star was purchased for $100. She won $73,000 in prize money when she was racing and then was used as a brood mare for 12 seasons, producing 6 live foals. Star is a super sweet mare. She loves affection and is a pleasure to do anything with. She is a wind sucker but this is controlled by a collar and she is hard fed twice a day to maintain condition. She hasn’t been ridden since she was racing and as such is not suitable for riding. Star found her forever family with her foster carer.
