Alec was an orphaned foal that sadly lost his mother, and owners could not afford the critical care that was required to save his life.
He was rushed to West Vets for urgent critical care as foals are extremely fragile and unfortunately, he had received none of his mother’s colostrum, which is vital after birth. He was monitored round the clock to ensure no infection occurred and was touch and go at times. However, he pulled through and one of our lovely SAHA supporters whose mare had recently lost her foal offered her to be his foster mum and the pair bonded almost immediately. He then spent the next several months in foster care. Now weaned he is at the sanctuary with new paddock buddy Klaus.
