Sass

Sass was rescued from the knackery in 2014 as an unhandled ex broodmare. We didn’t realise how old she was until she was with our trainer as she was pretty unhandled, and we didn’t want to stress her out too much – Instead sending her for professional training first. However, on dental examination it was discovered that she was in fact 19 years old. She was going well, so we continued to have her broken into saddle. After 4 weeks, Sass started to struggle in the hind end which was put down to nerve damage from having so many foals. It was decided for her to be available as a companion for an experienced home only due to her trust issues. So, Sass joined our Golden Oldies Sponsorship program.

July 2024 Sadly after slipping over in the paddock scans revealed she had suffered a serious injury which would require box rest and daily medication – given her age and trust issues it was decided the best option was to give her, her wings. She will always be remembered as the Sassy mare whose markings looked like she was wearing shorts. Run free Sass ♥
