Our poor little baby was unfortunately unable to feed from his mother. She was an unhandled mare so it was difficult and somewhat dangerous to try to get close enough to help the foal feed. We brought Memphis to our Gold Coast Sanctuary where he did feed from a bottle and we brought in a nanny mare but unfortunately he still had trouble feeding. He was given plasma blood transfusions and began successfully feeding from a bucket. It was brought to our attention that a thoroughbred mare named Pluto had lost her newborn foal. It seemed like the perfect match and she has taken to Memphis as much as he loves her. Unfortunately, Memphis still could not feed from Pluto but she is helping with his horsey socialisation. Memphis has grown into a beautiful young Clydesdale and with the help of his horsey mum, Pluto and his foster mum, he is beautifully handled and a joy to have around.
