Sylvester

Sylvester was bought through the sales as an unbroken stallion and then sold again through the sales, having been gelded and broken in. He was then sold again because he bucked like a trooper so back to the sales he went just to get bought by the knackery. They rode him at the knackery and he bucked like a trooper there too. When he came to us he was scared out of his mind and quite reactive with his lightening fast hind legs, so we did lots of handling with him before we could start to assess his physical issues. He was treated by a chiropractor and found to have a very sore back and treatment helped with that but he still wasn’t right. We had xrays taken on his hind fetlocks and what we found wasn’t good news. Both hind tendons were calcified and his fetlocks filled with arthritis. They look like the hind legs of an aged reining horse, but he Sylvester is only 7 years old. The good news is that at this time he isn’t lame. He hoons around the paddock perfectly. The vet did say that over time he will progressively get worse and when he starts to show signs of soreness we will need to reassess our options. But for now, he will be added to our golden oldies sponsorship retirement program and will spend the rest of his days chilling out with the golden oldies at SAHA.
